Would you be kind enough to pass on our sincere thanks and appreciation for the service Ensignbus Heritage Fleet provided for us on Saturday. It was a roaring success in more ways than one from start to finish.
To neighbours, seeing a huge bus outside our houses, wedding attendees and street observers we provided a great thrill to see or ride on a ‘good old London bus’ on duty.
It is well known locally that I have a long held passion for buses and have thousands of pictures and a vast collection of books and models.
Your driver and his lady were excellent company for us and nothing was too much trouble for them to cooperate and enhance the ride and photographic opportunity. Please thank them again they were both magnificent ambassadors for you – they enjoyed it as much as we did and they were at work.
It was a huge talking point at the reception and at church this morning also but we have one amazing story from the day which was later added to.
My long term friend who was ‘minding the church’ was able to lock up and with the bus still waiting to depart with its passengers, hopped on with us to the reception. To his surprise he then noticed, what I think was the fare stage list in its cabinet behind the conductors spot and realised that he had lived on and used this bus route 104 when he and his wife lived in Finchley in the 1960’s, that triggered an even better memory from another of our friends who was a bus driver on the 38s and drove the Routemasters.
What nostalgia that created. Stories and memories flew in from all directions about the Routemasters.
Finally though, we had not told Phillippa and Gary about the blind and tickets. We knew the bus was on its way as neighbours ‘spotted it’ on its journey and rushed round to tell us where they had seen it and on arrival started photographing it. Phillippa and her entourage were so busy ‘posing’ they didn’t look up and when they did, the start of a wow factor kicked in as they saw the blind.
Keeping our secret, the conductress went upstairs and told them she had a surprise for them and issued the tickets to Phillippa and co. There could not have been a better start. Many of the tickets have gone into the Wedding memorabilia packs people make up.
Phillippa and Gary are also going to frame the blind to put on one of their walls.
Many thanks for that important and much appreciated start to the proceedings you gave us.
Sadly the only thing we forgot to photograph was the fare stage listings – must be an excuse to hire again – cheekily I might be lucky that someone could email me a picture

Hello Claire,
I just wanted to say a big thank you to the driver and conductor for Jess and Jack's wedding. As you have probably heard (or saw) the rain was torrential and on leaving Porter's to go to the Golf club found many of the roads were closed due to flooding. The driver was amazing and found an alternative route that got us to the venue safe and sound and only ten minutes late! The bus was fantastic and despite everything we managed to get some great photos. Thank you once again for looking after us.

You won't remember me. We had a little exchange probably about 12 months ago now, when I first discovered Ensign had a fleet of Routemasters, I had said I'd remembered Ensign perhaps 20 or more years ago had lent a member of the local Institute of Advanced Motorists with whom I was involved at the time, and who had passed his bus test, a bus to take us all down to Brighton. You'd kindly replied that that was no longer possible but that if I were to apply to join the company, for perhaps a summer job, I might get the opportunity to drive one. I've kept hold of your papers but not followed it up due to time constraints, and practicality - living in Ireland.
But with you in mind, on the recent news of my fathers sudden death, and all of the plans that had to be made, and again being remote, when the family were discussing transport at the funeral, because a very large group would be coming from here and need it, I suggested they enquire of you the feasibility of a Routemaster. As I'd said to you before, a bus I was almost brought up on with trips with Dad the length and breadth of London. They were a little sceptical at first but with time, and a competitive price, grew to like the idea.
And I wanted to say personally, what a huge success it was, and a sincere thank you to the company, and Steve, I think the drivers name was, in particular. My sister Louise will have been dealing with all of the formalities, and I had to return home very shortly thereafter. Everyone agreed what an apprpriate accompaniment to the hearse for a London bus to escorst Dad to the cemetery. And it looked so regal parked up next to Weswtminster Cathedral. I was delighted when the funeral director jumped out and took a photograph, and I think your business card, so hopefully more funeral business will come your way. Unfortunately I didn't get to ride on the bus, but everyone who did had a great time, again reminiscing on their own journeys with Dad over the years. Please God some other time, and perhaps I will get down to applying to join you some time.

We wanted to say a huge 'Thank You' for the fantastic service provided by Ensignbus, the red routemater was a surprise for the guests on our wedding day, and we all absolutely loved it!
The bus was at the church when we arrived, the driver and conductor were absolutely fabulous, it, was a wonderful reminder of my chilhood!
