KTJ204C - Leyland PD2

New in April 1965 to Lancaster City Transport, the bus wore a number of colour schemes as various facets of the local council were merged. Completing its service in the North West it moved across to the North East, where as a training vehicle it was used to put new bus drivers through their test. Passing into private ownership and then preservation it is today a survivor of the many municipalities that used to operate their own buses and with a door that can keep out the elements is an idea vehicle for use on days where the weather is less than ideal.

Leyland PD2 204 History

204 (KTJ 204C) was new in 4/65 is a Leyland PD2/37 with East Lancs H37/28F body – Chassis number L25039 and body number 6256.

It was delivered in Ruby and Broken White and did receive City of Lancaster fleetname after April 1974 when the fleet amalgamated with Morecambe & Heysham. In due course it received the Trafalgar blue and white livery adopted for all vehicles by the City Council (including white wheels!) and the fleet name was Lancaster City Council with the official name of the undertaking being Lancaster City Council Passenger Transport Department.

It passed to local enthusiast Ambrose Fox  (Ribble Vehicle Preservation Group associate) February -81 as dealer and to AJ Hewlett and SJ Sutton (Lonsdale Coaches) Heysham May -81 It went to Rodham Washington  January -85 and then to Northern General Transport Company Limited no 591 as a Training Vehicle in  July -86. It was owned by the South Tyne preservation Group in 1999 but I do not know when they acquired it or when it was sold by them.

Some of the photographs in the gallery show the bus pre local government reorganisation, shortly after with City of Lancaster fleetname, in blue livery Lancaster City Council and the frontal view is taken in the ownership of Lonsdale Coaches where it is in Lancaster’s blue and white.
