Restoring Leyland Cub C4

The Cub C4 is the next of our major projects that will shortly be completed. Whilst lots of people may think such a small vehicle poses less problems, which of course to a degree is true, but the Cub has stalled a couple of times whilst we hunt major parts or overcome technical or engineering difficulties.

The vehicle was originally moved off site in Autumn 2008, to have the body work framing and structure done. It eventually came back to us in May 2010 where we hoped to get systems running and do the remaining jobs to get her back on the road. Alas the timescales we looked for slipped as snags came up and at times other work over took us and the need to switch onto more pressing requirements had to be taken care of.

The vehicle itself now is largely complete. The interior is some 90% complete, and the exterior is all together bar the sections that have to be off whilst modifications to the vehicles to running systems are overcome. The air powered door (yes these did have them) is now in and working but the compressor is producing a level we are happy with to supply the tank for any kind of extended use so a solution will need to be found. The engine needed a complete reconditioning, which has been done and whilst the bus sounds great the smoke was way in excess of what is acceptable, so the problem has to be resolved, currently the fuel pump is being rechecked as it appeared to be over fuelling… and so it goes on…

One step forwards another back, but the end is in sight now and when completed she will be a delightful addition of a mid 1930’s London Transport small bus and a real rarity.

This page will be updated with images as we progress and the more regular blog… click here… will also feature updates as we enter the home straight to finally completing this restoration.
